While the global annual mean air temperature is likely to reach its highest level in 2016 (based on a provisional report by the WMO, the annual mean air temperature anomaly across Europe for 2016 was not record-breaking but ranks 6th in the list of warmest years in the series since 1950. The definition of the R75pTOT, R95pTOT and R99pTOT indices have been changed. These indices now produce the amount of precipitation (in mm) related to these heavy, severe and extreme precipitation days respectively, rather than the percentage of this precipitation amount with respect to the total precipitation amount. The main menu contains three new items. "Return values" shows maps to evaluate more rare extremes than described by the "Indices of extremes". "Extreme events" provides information about significant events from the past few decades (such as the heat wave of Summer, 2003). "Project info" combines the old project publications and links. In addition, new categories have been introduced and four more indices are available.

The ECA&D database has seen a major update. This leads to the use of changed ECA&D station numbers throughout this website, so be careful when using programs that use certain station numbers. The main reason for these changes is that the blending process has been updated and more blended series are available. Click here for more background information.
