Mild winter of 2007

In a large part of Europe, Winter 2007 ranked among the warmest ever recorded. This led to an anomalously low demand for the heating of buildings which is consistent with the recorded mean temperature anomalies of more than 4°C above the long-term normal. The sum of daily mean temperatures below 17°C during winter (heating degree days) has decreased significantly since 1961, in particular over Western Europe. See the ECA&D trend map of heating degree days during the winter half of the year below.
