EU-projects

ENSEMBLES by the Met Office, UK

ENSEMBLES - based Predictions of Climate Changes and their Impacts is a European Union project under FP6. The project will, for the first time, develop a common ensemble climate forecast system for use across a range of timescales (seasonal, decadal, and longer) and spatial scales (global, regional, and local). The production of daily gridded datasets (E-OBS) for surface climate variables is part of the project (RT5).

MILLENNIUM by Swansea University, Wales

MILLENNIUM is a European Union project under FP6 that aims at answering a single question: Does the magnitude and rate of 20th Century climate change exceed the natural variability of European climate over the last millennium?

Tools

RClimdex by the Meteorological Service of Canada.

The RClimDex software package provides a friendly graphical user interface to compute all 27 core indices defined by the CCL/CLIVAR/JCOMM expert team on Climate Change Detection and Indices (see below).

KNMI Climate Explorer by Geert Jan van Oldenborgh, the Netherlands

The KNMI Climate Explorer presents the possibility to correlate public daily ECA data and extremes indices with a variety of other climate data, like NAO and NINO3 indices, global temperature data, RivDis river runoff data, Hulme/Jones monthly gridded data and selected NCEP/NCAR and ERA reanalysis fields.

GCMP by the German Weather Services

Generating Climate Monitoring Products (GCMP) is a project of the ECSN application area that aims at generating, developing and distributing standardized climate monitoring products for Europe.

CAT at the University of Reading, UK

The Climate Analysis Team (CAT) website at the University of Reading has collected material that helps improve the analysis of extreme weather and climate events.

Indices

CCl/CLIVAR/JCOMM Expert Team on Climate Change Detection and Indices (ETCCDI)

The Expert Team on Climate Change Detection and Indices (ETCCDI) is a joint expert team of the WMO Commission for Climatology (CCL), the Research Programme on Climate Variability and Predictability (CLIVAR) and the Joint WMO-IOC Technical Commission for Oceanography and Marine Meteorology (JCOMM). The team is putting particular emphasis on indices derived from daily data for the analysis of climate extremes.

APN for climate extremes

The Asian Pacific Network (APN) for Climate Extremes is a group of scientists in the Asia Pacific region who are collaborating to enhance the capability of nations in the region to monitor and analyse trends and variations in extreme climate events.

Climate Studies Group MONA, University of the West Indies, Jamaica

The Climate Studies Group (MONA) at the University of the West Indies has collected the results of the Regional Climate Data Workshop on Extremes held in Kingston, Jamaica in January 2001.

European Environment Agency

The European Environment Agency (EEA) uses ECA&D extremes indices as part of a group of environmental indices that EEA monitors on a regular basis. Key results are reported in their Environmental Assessments on a regular basis.
